AUBURN — The final practice of Auburn football’s 2025 spring drills was all about the youth.
The Tigers took to Jordan-Hare Stadium for A-Day on Saturday. Once a full-on spring game, this instance was a non-televised open practice, which saw plenty of work between individual drills and a brief live period. However, most of the players involved weren’t the roster’s standouts.
Oklahoma transfer quarterback Jackson Arnold was sidelined by an injury he sustained in practice late last week. Georgia Tech wide receiver transfer Eric Singleton Jr. was also a non-participant, as were defensive end Keldric Faulk and Virginia Tech offensive line transfer Xavier Chaplin.
“We’ve got to get some guys healthy that weren’t able to go through spring that we’re depending upon,” Hugh Freeze said Saturday.
It may have, understandably, underwhelmed those in attendance. But in the absence of the Arnolds and Singletons on Auburn’s roster, its youth shined, be it true freshmen or rising sophomores.
Here’s a look at three Tigers who won the day.
Wide receiver Perry Thompson
Thompson talked earlier this week about using an underwhelming freshman season to grow. On Saturday, he walked a walk that backed up his talk.
During individual drills and seven-on-seven periods, he caught three touchdown passes, all of which were in traffic.
“There’s a process to this for most people in this league and — man, (it’s) just be patient with the process,” Freeze said of Thompson. “I think he’s starting to see the success that comes with that, and as long as he continues to be consistent in his…
