Michigan LB Jason Hewlett entering the transfer portal

Announced on his social media on Saturday, Michigan Wolverines linebacker Jason Hewlett is entering the transfer portal once it opens on Wednesday, April 16.

“First and foremost, I want to express my deepest gratitude to Coach Moore and the University of Michigan for transforming me into the man I am today,” Hewlett wrote. “However, after careful consideration and reflection, I have made the difficult decision to enter the transfer portal with three years of eligibility, and explore new opportunities.”

The 6-foot-2, 227-pounder from Youngstown, Ohio was a three-star prospect in the 2023 class and has three career tackles to his name, with all three of them coming in last year’s blowout win over Northwestern.

Primarily a special teams player during his time in Ann Arbor, Hewlett played nine games for the Wolverines in 2024 and was named Scout Team Defensive Player of the Week for the Fresno State game. He redshirted during the national championship-winning 2023 season.

We wish Hewlett nothing but the best as he seeks a new college football home.
