If Alabama football were starting its 2025 season tomorrow, offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb made it clear who would be the first quarterback on the field.
“If we were playing a football game tomorrow, Ty Simpson would start,” Grubb said. “He earned that.”
But Grubb also knows the Crimson Tide doesn’t have a game tomorrow. Alabama doesn’t kick off its 2025 season until Aug. 30 on the road against Florida State. And he’s not done scouting what Austin Mack and Keelon Russell have done, each of whom have impressed the new offensive coordinator.
“We’re not going to be satisfied with the quarterback group until it’s how it’s supposed to be,” Grubb said.
Simpson has the most experience in the Alabama quarterback room with 50 career pass attempts and three full seasons in the Crimson Tide QB room along with Bryce Young and Jalen Milroe.
Alabama will open the 2025 season at Florida State Aug. 30.
