As Florida football eyes a successful season in 2025, four Gators earned spots on CBS Sports’ annual top 150 college football players rankings, released by analyst Blake Brockermeyer. But while the recognition is welcome, one ranking in particular has Gator Nation scratching its head: DJ Lagway at No. 57.
The former No. 1 quarterback recruit in 2024 flashed elite upside in limited action. Lagway threw for 1,610 yards, 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions, helping the Orange and Blue finish with its first winning season in four years.
Yet, despite his tools and pedigree, here are some quarterbacks that CBS Sports ranked ahead of Lagway: John Mateer (Oklahoma Sooners), Carson Beck (Miami Hurricanes), Kevin Jennings (SMU Mustangs), Darian Mensah (Duke Blue Devils), Arch Manning (Texas Longhorns) and Haynes King (Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets).
For a player with first-round NFL potential, No. 57 feels light. Lagway is expected to be the face of Florida’s offense and, if healthy, could quickly prove himself as one of the most dangerous dual-threat quarterbacks in the country.
Along with Lagway, other Florida football players included in the rankings are defensive tackle Caleb Banks (No. 34), center Jake Slaughter (No. 63), and defensive lineman Tyreak Sapp (No. 66).
Here is what Brockermeyer wrote about each Gator ranked in his top 150 college football players rankings.

No. 57: QB DJ Lagway
“Big-framed sophomore with huge upside as the No. 1 QB recruit in the class of 2024. Threw for 1,610 yards,…
