Colorado football will make history at this weekend’s spring game.
The athletic department announced it will retire Shedeur Sanders’ and Travis Hunter’s uniform numbers during Saturday’s spring game. No. 2 and No. 12 will become the fifth and sixth players to have their numbers retired in Colorado football history.
Hunter was the best player in college football a season ago, winning the Heisman Trophy, Walter Camp Award and both the AP and Sporting News Player of the Year honors. He also won the Paul Hornung Award for the second straight year as college football’s most versatile player. He won the Bednarik Award as the nation’s top defensive player and the Biletnikoff Award as the best receiver.
He became one of only three college football players to win eight major awards and was a unanimous first-team All-American.
He finished his final collegiate season with 96 receptions for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns, setting a Colorado record for receiving touchdowns. On defense, he recorded 36 tackles, four interceptions and 11 pass breakups, all while leading the FBS with 1,483 snaps.
Sanders changed the trajectory of Colorado football when he came with his dad from Jackson State in 2022. He set numerous school records, including career passing touchdowns, passer rating, and completion percentage; the top two passing seasons for completion percentage and QB rating; and two of the top three for passing yards, touchdowns, 300-yard games and games with 3-plus touchdown passes.
In 2024, he won the Johnny Unitas Award as the top quarterback in college football after completing 353 of 477 passes (74.0%) for 4,134 yards with 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
