We’re a little over four months away from the beginning of the 2025 college football season, but spring football is wrapping up all over the country. Established stars, new names, and future legends are developing at each program ahead of the new season.
CBS Sports took the opportunity to rank the Top 150 players in college football for the spring of 2025. Staff writer Blake Brockermeyer took stock of the entire country at the FBS level, stacking the most impactful players in the sport.
Unsurprisingly, the top Oklahoma Sooner in the rankings was new starting quarterback John Mateer, who transferred to OU this winter. He came in at No. 16 overall on the list, sixth among quarterbacks.
Dual-threat breakout with 3,100+ passing yards, 29 TDs and 826 rushing yards with 15 scores at Washington State. Can make every throw, move in the pocket and extend plays. Serious red-zone weapon as a runner. Will be tested by SEC defenses, but fits well in OU’s offense. Name to know in 2025. – Brockermeyer, CBS Sports
The only other Sooner to appear in the rankings was defensive tackle Gracen Halton, who checked in at No. 110. He’s not the biggest returning name on the OU defense, but he had a productive season up front in 2024. Halton had a knack for making tackles behind the line of scrimmage, none bigger that his safety against Houston that helped Oklahoma avoid the upset.
