STILLWATER — The night before the portal opens for the majority of college football players, Oklahoma State picked up its fourth transfer commitment.
Appalachian State left tackle Markell Samuel has committed to the Cowboys, according to multiple online reports. Graduate transfers and other players who meet special requirements are allowed to enter the portal at any time. Non-graduating players have a 10-day window to enter, which opens Wednesday.
Samuel is a 6-foot-4, 300-pound super-senior originally from Fayetteville, North Carolina.
He began his career as a defensive lineman with App State in 2020, but moved to offense the following year. But 2023, he worked his way into the starting lineup at left tackle, and that’s where he stayed for all of 2024.
He has played more than 1,400 snaps in his career, and thus, brings a veteran aspect to a somewhat unproven Cowboy offensive line. OSU must replace all five offensive line starters and a few backups, having brought in multiple transfers to compete for openings.
Samuel’s experience should help him blend in quickly when he arrives in June with hopes of contending for a role.
