Deion Sanders expects transfer portal additions at multiple positions

Deion Sanders spoke to the media on Thursday morning ahead of Colorado’s spring game this weekend and discussed his plan of attack for the spring transfer portal window, which opened this week.

Coach Prime and the Buffs have already brought in wide receiver Sincere Brown and offensive lineman Xavier Hill, but that is only the beginning. With Colorado’s leading rusher, Isaiah Augustave, entering the portal, CU needs running back depth.

“We are gonna run the heck out of the ball,” Sanders said. “This year, with the offensive lineman we’ve attained, the coaching staff we’ve assembled, as well as what Marshall Faulk brings to the table, we’re going to run the football. We’re probably going to get two more back out of the portal as well.”

The running back room is relatively thin, with only Micah Welch, Dallan Hayden and Charlie Offerdahl as the established players. Welch would appear to be the projected starter after averaging 4.3 yards per carry during his true freshman season. Hayden was used as the Buffs’ pass-catching back last year, racking up 17 receptions for 132 yards. The former Ohio State back should play a role this upcoming season, regardless of who comes into the program.

Adding multiple running backs is not the only thing on Coach Prime’s wishlist. The Buffs have multiple defensive backs coming in for visits as they look to bolster a secondary losing Travis Hunter. Sanders thinks the only position set in stone is kicker, which has improved this offseason.

With the spring game taking place this weekend, Deion Sanders and Colorado will have several players…
