Legendary “ESPN College GameDay” analyst Lee Corso will be retiring in August, according to ESPN. Corso’s 38-year run on the Saturday morning staple will come to a close after one final show to begin the 2025 college football season.
“My family and I will be forever indebted for the opportunity to be part of ESPN and College GameDay for nearly 40 years,” Corso said in a statement released by ESPN. “I have a treasure of many friends, fond memories and some unusual experiences to take with me into retirement.”
Corso’s career on the show began in 1987 and he’ll be 90 when it concludes with his last show to kick off Week 1 Saturday of next season on August 30th. He’s become an icon of the sport for his headgear picks to close out the show, a tradition that began in 1996.
Corso was a head coach at the collegiate level for 15 seasons, serving at Louisville, Indiana and Northern Illinois. His alma mater is Florida State.
Corso has picked the Oklahoma Sooners in his headgear segment 18 times over the years, choosing correctly 11 times. OU Football and countless others in the college football space reached out to congratulate the legend on his retirement, and ESPN plans special programming leading up to his final show.
