It’s rare, but it happens — coaches end up trying to take down the team they used to play for in their previous college football life. For Michigan football head coach Sherrone Moore, he’ll not only look to beat his alma mater, Oklahoma, in Week 2, but he’ll face the school he was hired away from to come to Ann Arbor, Central Michigan, in Week 3.
On Thursday, Moore met up with On3 host J.D. PicKell to discuss how the Wolverines are doing this spring and he says that when it comes to that game in Norman in Week 2, he’s sure there will be some emotions involved, but he also looks at Michigan more as his home now considering he’s spent eight years in Ann Arbor compared to two in Norman.
“Yeah, I don’t know yet,” Moore said. “I think I’ll be hyped up because I always am before a game. But there’s a calming feeling regardless of where you are. I think that will be a little different because that’s where I played. But at the same time, man, this will be year eight here in Michigan. So this place is home for me. And it’ll be like going against another team. So I’m excited for it and excited for that game.
“But let’s get ready for the spring game and hit the summer cycle, and then we’ll get ready for the next piece.”
It’s somewhat rare, but also not unlikely to see coaches have to go up against their alma mater. Even this year’s national championship game saw Marcus Freeman coaching Notre Dame against his former school, Ohio State.
For now, Michigan football will partake in the annual spring game in just two days, with Saturday’s showing at The Big House.
