Texas A&M should pursue Florida State transfer WR Hykeem Williams

Texas A&M coach Mike Elko knows how he will evaluate the spring transfer portal, which officially opened on Wednesday morning. For ten days, players can transfer to any destination, except for SEC players, who are not allowed to transfer to any of the fifteen other teams in the conference before the season.

This spring, the Aggies’ 2025 roster possesses holes like any other roster, especially at defensive tackle. The wide receiver room needs more size to provide starting quarterback Marcel Reed with another red zone and downfield option. Even the loaded offensive line could use another depth piece at tackle or guard, but as Elko stated during Wednesday’s press conference, he is looking for value, not just adding players for the sake of depth.

While finding and landing a productive defensive tackle that can fill a rotational role is the toughest objective, a former five-star wide receiver not named Micah Hudson has entered the portal and is well acquainted with Texas A&M. On Thursday, Florida State wideout Hykeem Williams, who nearly committed to the Aggies, is looking to move on from the Seminoles and could be the final piece in an undersized wide receiver room.

Standing at 6’2″ and 215 pounds, Williams was not a go-to target, reeling in 16 receptions and 162 yards during the Seminoles’ underwhelming 2024 season, but was one of the best athletes on the roster regardless of his numbers.

While former Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher was known for his Florida-based recruiting success, Williams should at least consider the Aggies, as his addition to the passing game would unlock Marcel Reed’s potential as a passer and provide even more confidence to the sophomore signal caller.
