Colorado football’s Isaiah Augustave transfers to Virginia

Deion Sanders called out the Virginia Cavaliers last week for tampering with two Colorado players. We now know which player Virginia’s “tampering” resulted in them leaving the Buffaloes.

That would be last season’s leading rusher, Isaiah Augustave. The running back entered the transfer portal when it opened last week and now has committed to Virginia.

Sanders said last week that Virginia’s actions would no longer be allowed after it was reported that they also tampered with current Colorado defensive back Carter Stoutmire.

“Virginia, you’ve got to stop,” Sanders said after practice last week. “I let you have one and didn’t say nothing about it.”

Augustave will now head to the ACC and his third collegiate program. After starting his career at Arkansas, the Naples, Fla. native transferred to Colorado last year. He will have two years of eligibility left with the Cavaliers.

He saw action in 11 games, starting six. The running back led the team in rushing yards with 394 on 85 carries and four touchdowns. Against Cincinnati, he recorded a season high 22 carries for 91 yards. He earned Big 12 Newcomer of the Week following his performance against the Bearcats.

It does seem that Augustave’s transfer to Virginia was not pure, as Sanders points out. Unfortunately, this is a common occurrence in today’s college football, with NIL deals and dollar amounts often luring talent away from their programs and into the transfer portal.

Sanders and Colorado will look to add two running backs from the transfer portal this spring to offset Augustave’s departure.
