AUBURN — Auburn football’s first transfer addition of the spring portal window is a familiar face, as former blue-chip recruit Jay Hardy announced Sunday on his Instagram account that he’d be returning to the Plains.
A top-100 defensive lineman transfer, according to 247Sports, Hardy is expected to have two years of eligibility remaining.
Hardy began his career at Auburn in 2020 before transferring to Liberty, where he wouldn’t see the field in 2022. However, he compiled 54 tackles, 8 tackles for loss, 3 pass breakups and 2 sacks in three seasons with the Flames.
Out of high school, Hardy picked Auburn over Tennessee, Florida, Georgia and Georgia Tech. He held offers from 31 DI schools, including Alabama, LSU, Ohio State and Oklahoma.
Hardy’s addition breathes veteran experience into Auburn’s defensive line room. While the Tigers have 10 scholarship linemen, only four are upperclassmen.
