Paul Finebaum once again has words to say about Clemson, Death Valley

Paul Finebaum just couldn’t help himself when a Clemson fan called into his show this past week.

The longtime SEC Network host took yet another dig at the Tigers during a back-and-forth with a caller named Jerry from Tennessee, who also happens to be a Clemson fan. Jerry called into The Paul Finebaum Show with a polite invitation: he wanted Finebaum and ESPN legend Lee Corso to attend Clemson’s season opener against LSU on August 30 at Memorial Stadium.

Of course, that matchup reignites the long-running debate over which school lays claim to the real “Death Valley.” Both Clemson’s Memorial Stadium and LSU’s Tiger Stadium go by the nickname, and Jerry made it clear where he stood.

“We’d like to invite you and Lee Corso to come to Death Valley for the Clemson Tiger-LSU game,” Jerry said. “He would be right when he put on a Clemson Tiger mascot hat, and we could settle this once and for all, where Death Valley is.”

Finebaum wasn’t having it.

“I can settle that for you right now, Jerry,” he replied. “I don’t have to come to Clemson. It’s in Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge.”

When Jerry asked how long LSU has even used the Death Valley nickname, Finebaum didn’t offer a timeline.

“It doesn’t matter. Sometimes it’s just the way it feels,” he said. “You Clemsonites are hanging on some antiquated… You’ve got the Rock. You’ve got the stadium deal. You’ve got the hard-to-find city that you live in.”

Jerry, not at all surprised by Finebaum’s response, fired back: “I’m getting exactly what I expected from you.”

Finebaum wrapped it up with another jab: “I’m sure everybody over there on the ACC Network would be happy to take your call.”
