Nico Iamaleava’s expected destination is reportedly making steps to welcome in the former Tennessee quarterback.

The football staff at UCLA has informed the team’s current group of quarterbacks that Iamaleava is expected to transfer to the Bruins, according to a report Sunday from ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Thamel added that communication between staff and players shows that discussions between UCLA and Iamaleava are “significant,” with a formal decision “expected in the near future.”

Since Tennessee parted ways with the former five-star recruit earlier this month, the Bruins emerged as one of the most likely landing spots for the Long Beach, California, native.

UCLA lost its 2024 starting quarterback, Ethan Garbers, who exhausted his eligibility, and saw former four-star recruit Justyn Martin transfer to Maryland. To address a need at the position, the Bruins picked up Appalachian State transfer Joey Aguilar in December, though ESPN’s Chris Low reported on Wednesday that Aguilar’s representatives have been making calls to other schools to gauge interest in light of Iamaleava’s expected transfer.

UCLA went 5-7 last season under first-year coach Deshaun Foster.
