Mason Nelson, a transfer defensive lineman from Western Michigan, has committed to Vanderbilt football, according to a report from 247Sports.
He picked the Commodores after visits to Tennessee and Pittsburgh. The 6-foot-2, 311-pounder had 30 tackles, eight tackles for loss and two sacks in 2024.
He is a graduate transfer in his final year of eligibility.
“I love how gritty they are,” Nelson told 247Sports. “I know I will get pushed everyday to get better and work to get to the NFL.”
Nelson provides another big body on the defensive line after the transfer of De’Marion Thomas to Oklahoma State. He is Vanderbilt’s fourth portal addition during the spring window and first from the FBS level. The Commodores already secured commitments from Washburn wide receiver Tre Richardson, Northern Arizona offensive tackle Clinton Azubuike and Southeast Missouri defensive lineman Jaylon Stone.
