It’s still early in the 2026 recruiting class. Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko is not shy about going after prospects committed to other programs, as it’s been reported that 2026 four-star linebacker JaMichael Garrett will visit College Station this week, along with the Miami Hurricanes.
After flipping four-star cornerback Victor Singelton from Illinois over the weekend, A&M’s 2026 class ranks fourth nationally (247Sports). The Aggies are loading up at nearly every position. After landing Ohio-based four-star linebacker Storm Miller, Garrett is the next name Elko and his staff have in mind to replace the likes of Taurean York and Scooby Williams in the middle of the defense.
Garrett was recruited by former Texas A&M defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin, who is in the same position with Auburn, knowing that the Louisiana native is a future star who could be utilized in a variety of ways, including as a pass rusher after recording nearly 27 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks during his 2023 sophomore season. Last season, Garrett recorded a career high of 91 tackles, but his sack total was lowered to just 1.5.
While Miami will also get a shot at flipping the talented defender, Texas A&M’s recent recruiting success is a positive sign that Elko is one of the top recruiters in the SEC and isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
According to 247Sports, Garrett is currently positioned as the 152nd prospect in the cycle, the 8th-ranked linebacker prospect, and the 8th-ranked prospect in Louisiana.
