Wisconsin redshirt freshman cornerback Jay Harper is entering the NCAA transfer portal, according to 247Sports’ Evan Flood. He departs on the tail end of the spring transfer window, which is set to close on April 25.
The second-year cornerback joined the Badgers as a three-star recruit in the class of 2024, ranked as the No. 715 player in the class, No. 61 cornerback and No. 35 recruit from his home state of Alabama. He did not see any game action as a true freshman in 2024.
Harper is the sixth member of the program’s 2024 recruiting class to depart, following cornerback Xavier Lucas (Miami), edge rusher Anelu Lafaele (Michigan State), offensive lineman Derek Jensen (Iowa State), quarterback Mabrey Mettauer (Sam Houston State) and defensive lineman Hank Weber (Samford). Tight end Rob Booker has also since medically retired from football.
More recently, the freshman cornerback is also Wisconsin’s sixth transfer departure of the spring window. He enters with four years of eligibility remaining.
Harper was projected as a depth player in a crowded cornerback room entering 2025. 2024 starters Ricardo Hallman and Nyzier Fourqurean are back to lead the room, with transfers Geimere Latimer (Jacksonville State) and D’Yoni Hill (Miami) also as primary contributors. Harper, redshirt freshman Omillio Agard and true freshman Jai’mier Scott were slotted as the room’s primary depth.
Wisconsin has seen a significant number of secondary players, specifically cornerbacks, transfer out since the end of the 2024 season. That includes cornerbacks Lucas, Harper, Amare Snowden, Jonas Duclona, Jace Arnold and Max Lofy, plus safeties Braedyn Moore, Justin Taylor and Kamo’i Latu. The program has since landed cornerbacks Latimer and Hill, and safeties Matt Jung and Matthew Traynor, in addition to returning Hallman and Fourqurean.
