A Penn State football commit recently received his fifth star.
Class of 2027 running back Kemon Spell was bumped up to a 5-star recruit on the 247 Sports composite rankings after a wave of updates on recruiting services.
Following the update, Spell is listed as the No. 1 running back, No. 1 Pennsylvania native and No. 10 overall recruit in the class.
Spell stands at 5-foot-9 and is listed at 185 pounds, and is a current sophomore at McKeesport High School. In 2024, he recorded 1,681 yards on 157 carries for 24 touchdowns.
Spell was the first player to commit in the 2027 cycle, doing so on Aug. 2, 2024. He’s since been joined by 4-star offensive tackle Layton Von Brandt and 4-star wide receiver Khalil Taylor, and the group ranks as the No. 2 recruiting class nationally in the early stages.
Though updates are likely to come, Spell’s current ranking would make him the ninth-highest recruit to ever commit to Penn State and the highest since linebacker Brandon Smith in 2019. The Nittany Lions haven’t added a composite 5-star since 2022, when they landed three – defensive end Dani Dennis-Sutton, running back Nick Singleton and quarterback Drew Allar.
