Indiana football picks up commitment from Ryle’s Jacob Savage

One of Northern Kentucky’s top football recruits in the class of 2026 is officially off the board.

Ryle running back and linebacker Jacob Savage committed to Indiana University on Friday afternoon.

Savage chose the Hoosiers from a list of seven schools that included Georgia Tech, Louisville, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern and Purdue.

He has been one of the best two-way players in the state. In 2024, he led the Raiders with 1,085 rushing yards and 22 rushing touchdowns. He also caught 29 passes for 313 yards and four touchdowns. He also led the team with 141 tackles and contributed 9.5 tackles for loss and three sacks.

Weighing in at 219 pounds, Savage is a wrecking ball in the backfield. He can get up to his top speed in the blink of an eye and has a propensity for clutch plays, like his game-winning touchdown in overtime against Highlands. On defense, Savage has next-level instincts for where the ball is going and possesses the speed to make tackles in the open field or at the line of scrimmage.

The Raiders went 12-3 last fall, advancing to the Class 6A state championship game. They should be a team to watch statewide as they return a core that includes Brayden Elder, Bo Gay, Carson Jenkins, Max Karwath, Dylan Lee, Gavin Lyons, Gavin Moses, Nathan Verax and Kai Workman.

The Enquirer will update this story.
