Michigan football had its quarterback for 2026, but then things took a shocking turn as the Wolverines were closing out 2025.
The maize and blue flipped Bryce Underwood from LSU and that led to 2026 quarterback commit Brady Hart reclassifying to 2025 and flipping to Texas A&M. Since then, the Wolverines have been looking for their next signal caller, not wanting to be in the same situation they were after getting J.J. McCarthy, when they didn’t have a viable quarterback to follow him.

The former Florida State commit pledged to be a Seminole just before Hart verbally committed to the Wolverines, but he since backed off his commitment. He looked Washington-bound until the Huskies got a commitment from three-star Derek Zammit.
And now Smigiel, who visited Ann Arbor for the spring game, is now in the fold after pledging to the maize and blue.
Smigiel is rated a five-star according to Rivals which has him as the No. 23 player in the country, regardless of position. He’s otherwise a four-star everywhere else, coming in at No. 80 according to the 247Sports Composite.

He’s a tough kid, will stand in and take a shot and not flinch. Great natural leader, locker room guy and…
