NORMAN — Following former Cal star Jaydn Ott’s decision to transfer to Oklahoma, it was only a matter of time before a member of OU’s crowded running back position group entered the transfer portal.
It’s expected redshirt junior Gavin Sawchuk will transfer, per a Friday night On3 report. Sawchuk spent three seasons with the Sooners, rushing for 977 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Sawchuk struggled with injuries throughout his OU career. During his healthiest season in 2023, Sawchuk earned honorable mention All-Big 12 acclaim, playing in 12 games and starting each of the last seven while leading the team with 744 rushing yards and nine touchdowns.
The Sooners and running backs coach DeMarco Murray still have plenty of depth with Jovantae Barnes, Xavier Robinson and Taylor Tatum, as well as freshman Tory Blaylock.
Ott, a former All-Pac-12 first-team selection, is expected to be OU’s starter this fall.
