Dillon Gresham breaks out at Ducks spring game

The Oregon Ducks held their annual spring game on Saturday afternoon at Autzen Stadium. Despite the fact that mostly everyone had impressive showings, there were a few players who stood out among the crowd. One of those players was wide receiver Dillon Gresham, who should get his first crack at playing time this season.

Gresham was a consensus four-star recruit who redshirted his freshman year. With a chance to make a first impression on the coaching staff and fanbase in his first live-action with the team, the young receiver did not disappoint.

Gresham ended the day with an incredible stat line of three catches for 96 yards and a touchdown. His day was highlighted by a 56-yard catch and run touchdown, but it may not have even been his best play. There was a play earlier in the contest where Gresham laid out and made a spectacular catch on a go-ball that gave the stadium and commentators a jolt of energy.

The performance clearly left an impression on head coach Dan Lanning, who had this to say about Gresham’s day:

“I think we all saw what he’s capable of today. I thought he made some contested catches. He made some great plays on the ball.”

This speaks volumes to how much confidence and excitement the coaching staff holds about their receiver. Lanning ended the speech by saying, “I think he’d be the first one to tell you, ‘Hey, I got even more room to grow. I got more to even improve.”

It did not seem as if Lanning was attempting to downplay Gresham’s monster game, rather he just wanted to keep him levelheaded. It was an impressive display for someone’s first in-game experience in college, so the coaches likely don’t want him to get a big head.
