Some of the most iconic moments in recent Michigan football history have come courtesy of none other than Donovan Edwards.
A local product who hailed from West Bloomfield (Mich.), Edwards was a five-star according to one recruiting service and a four-star to the others. His big moments include a huge game against Penn State in 2022, a 75-yard and 85-yard touchdown against Ohio State that same year, and two 40-plus-yard scampers for touchdowns in the 2023 national championship game against Washington.
Edwards was a big enough player in the sport to be included on the covers of the resurgent EA Sports College Football 25 video game, but alas, after a two-year struggle to cement himself as a dominant running back consistently, he went undrafted. However, Edwards signed as an undrafted free agent with the New York Jets, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
Edwards amassed 2,251 rushing yards in his four years as a Wolverine and could have been utilized as a receiver. However, the maize and blue rarely used him in that position, despite him having his best year catching the football as a true freshman.
This past season, Edwards was a team captain, but he ended up splitting time with Kalel Mullings in the backfield.
