A former Penn State guard is on the move, and not via the NFL draft.
Shortly after several of his former teammates were drafted, JB Nelson committed to transfer to Kansas State, per CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz.
Nelson entered the transfer portal two weeks ago as a graduate transfer, just days before the spring transfer portal opened. He reportedly took visits to Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Syracuse and Maryland, but ultimately landed elsewhere.
Following two years at Lackawanna Community College, Nelson spent three years at Penn State. He saw increased playing time over that span, starting with just four games played in 2022. In 2023, he appeared in 11 contests, starting in eight.
In his last season in Happy Valley, Nelson started all 16 games at right guard, helping lead one of the top rushing attacks in the country.
But with emerging star Cooper Cousins, a sophomore and top recruit in Penn State’s 2024 recruiting class, Nelson was battling for a starting role heading into 2025. His transfer indicates Cousins had overtaken him on the depth chart.
Regardless, Nelson brings lots of playing experience at the power conference level into his last year of eligibility with the Wildcats, as well as the versatility to play anywhere along the line.
