Former Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers is Miami-bound.
On Saturday, the Miami Dolphins selected Ewers in the seventh round of the NFL draft. Ewers was drafted with the 231st overall pick. He was the 13th quarterback selected in this draft.
Ewers joins Chris Simms (third round, 2003), Vince Young (first round, 2006), Colt McCoy (third round, 2010) and Sam Ehlinger (sixth round, 2021) as the Texas quarterbacks drafted in the last 40 years.
Ewers is also the 12th Longhorn selected in the 2025 NFL Draft. That establishes a modern-day record at Texas.
A three-year starter at Texas, Ewers ranks third in the school record books with his 9,128 career passing yards and 68 career touchdown passes. He went 27-9 as a starter and guided the Longhorns to two College Football Playoff appearances. During the 2023 season, he was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Big 12 championship game.
Ewers was rated as a perfect prospect during the 2021 recruiting cycle, but he transferred to Texas after he skipped his senior year of high school and spent an eventful season at Ohio State. He struggled with his durability at Texas and missed games during each of his three years with the Longhorns.
Statesman scouting report on Quinn Ewers
Strengths: Big-game experience, on-field IQ, leadership, playing within a system, pedigree
Weaknesses: Durability, downfield passing, mobility, turnovers
What reporter Danny Davis noticed: Over his time at Texas, Ewers showed glimpses of why he was one of the highest-rated quarterbacks in the history of high school recruiting. Yes, there are notable cons that NFL teams will have to weigh. There’s also the 349-yard, three-touchdown game at Alabama in 2023. Or the 452-yard, four-touchdown game in the 2023 Big 12 championship game. Or the 246-yard, three-touchdown game at Michigan in 2024. It’s also worth noting…
