Tampa Bay Buccaneers signing Shilo Sanders as undrafted free agent

Browns GM Andrew Berry on why they drafted Shedeur Sanders

Despite already drafting Dillon Gabriel to an already crowded Browns QB room, GM Andrew Berry explains why they couldn’t pass up Shedeur Sander in the fifth round.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced the signing of Colorado defensive back Shilo Sanders as an undrafted free agent on Saturday.

Shilo Sanders wasn’t selected in the 2025 NFL Draft on Saturday, although his brother, former Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, was taken in the fifth round by the Cleveland Browns.

Shilo Sanders will have to battle for a spot on the Buccaneers’ 53-man roster or show enough for another team to sign him to the active roster after training camp is over in late summer. The Canton, Texas, native played six seasons of college football at South Carolina, Jackson State and Colorado.

Shilo Sanders was a solid piece of the Buffaloes’ defense in 2024, finishing the season with 67 total tackles with a sack and a forced fumble. He finished his college career with six interceptions, including an 80-yard pick-6 with Colorado in 2023.

The 6-foot-2 defensive back was a three-star recruit in the 2019 recruiting class out of Trinity Christian School in Cedar Hill, Texas. He was rated the No. 753 player nationally and No. 69 cornerback, according to 247Sports’ Composite rankings, and signed with South Carolina over reported offers from Florida State, Georgia, Oregon, Tennessee and Colorado State, among others.

Shilo Sanders is going to face an uphill climb to making an NFL roster in 2025, but he and Shedeur Sanders are looking to be the second and third members of their family to reach the league, behind their dad, Pro Football Hall of Famer and Colorado coach Deion Sanders.
