A roundup of spring football practices during the week of April 28-May 3, 2025:
Naples football aiming to build off solid 2024 season
The Naples football team kicked off its spring football practice slate in a businesslike fashion Monday afternoon in the blistering heat, with the blue and white practice jerseys on matching sides during team stretches.
With a solid backfield room once again, paired with a talented offensive line and quarterback, the Golden Eagles are poised to pick up where they left off last season, which included a state semifinal appearance in Class 4A.
Naples appears poised to offset the loss of Shawn Simeon, last year’s Broxson Trophy winner, who is the only player in Southwest Florida to put up multiple 2,000-yard rushing seasons, and Trayvon Jean.
First Baptist transfer Sam Sparacio (867 rushing yards, 761 receiving yards, 20 total TD) is expected to play a key role in Naples’ backfield, alongside Jamar Jerome, who ran for 535 yards and three scores a season ago. Nicksen Volvic could rotate in after rushing for 158 yards last season.
With a handful of absences due to track and field practice and pending physicals, starting quarterback Alijah Molina, wide receiver James LaChance, linebacker Tariq Arbyummi, and defensive back Eli Chery each made their way out onto the field after track practice. Each is expected to play a key role this season at their respective positions.
“That’s the way we do it here,” Naples coach Rick Martin said.
Pitt and Eastern Michigan were in attendance watching practice Monday. A handful of schools other visited throughout the day, which included Navy and Stetson.
