Georgia baseball rises two spots in latest coaches poll

The Georgia Bulldogs have risen two spots in the USA TODAY Sports baseball coaches poll after a 2-2 week. Georgia baseball is now ranked No. 7.

Georgia beat the No. 21 Oklahoma Sooners two games to one in a three-game series. Georgia also lost 3-0 midweek at the No. 4 Clemson Tigers.

Georgia beat Oklahoma 6-3 on Saturday. The Bulldogs also won 10-9 on Friday against the Sooners to halt a season-worst five-game losing streak. Oklahoma won the first game of the series, 8-6.

“The energy in the dugout went through the roof,” said Georgia baseball manager Wes Johnson after the Bulldogs beat Oklahoma on Saturday. “Everybody pulls for everybody and the energy went through the roof and we needed that.”

Pitching remains a concern for Georgia, who has three SEC series left his season. Georgia (35-11, 12-9 in SEC) is tied for fifth in the SEC standings with Alabama, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt. The Bulldogs have a big opportunity this week to make up some ground in the conference.

Georgia plays a three-game SEC series at the Missouri Tigers (13-30, 0-21 in SEC) from May 2-4. Georgia should expect to sweep the Tigers, who remain winless in SEC action.

Before Georgia hits the road to play Missouri, the Dawgs host Kennesaw State (22-21) at Foley Field on Tuesday, April 29 at 7:00 p.m. ET.
