Oklahoma basketball lands Derrion Reid from Alabama via portal

Less than a week after his official visit to Norman, former Alabama five-star forward Derrion Reid has committed to Oklahoma out of the transfer portal, according to On3Sports.

Reid averaged 6 points per game in about 15 minutes a night for the Crimson Tide during his first and only season in Tuscaloosa. The numbers aren’t eye-popping, but Reid’s pedigree suggests more lies under the hood. He was a five-star recruit and McDonald’s All-American coming out of Prolific Prep in California, though he is originally from Georgia.

The 6-foot-8 rising sophomore is the fourth player added by Sooners coach Porter Moser from the portal this offseason. Guard Nijel Pack, who averaged 14 points per game last year, joined from Miami (FL). Tae Davis averaged more than 15 points per game at Notre Dame in 2024-25. And Xzayvier Brown joined after averaging more than 17 points per game at St. Joseph’s.

Reid is expected to be a strong rotational player and potentially a starter for the Sooners next year. He joins Davis, true freshmen Andreas Holst Kai Rogers, and redshirt freshman Kuol Atak as the only natural forward/center players on the roster.

Oklahoma was ranked 13th in the transfer portal rankings previous to Reid’s commitment to the Sooners. That number should jump, perhaps even inside the top 10, when the rankings are updated in the coming days.
