Oklahoma State football adds Tulsa QB Banks Bowen via transfer portal

STILLWATER — Oklahoma State found a perfect fit to help fill its quarterback void.

Banks Bowen, the son of OSU analyst Clint Bowen, committed to the Cowboys, announcing his decision on his X account Monday night.

The 6-foot-3, 208-pound Banks Bowen completed 172 of 277 passes (62.1%) for 2,368 yards and 23 touchdowns while rushing for 861 yards and nine TDs as a senior at Lawrence (Kansas) High School last fall.

He was an early enrollee at Tulsa in January, but entered the transfer portal last Friday, the final day of the spring transfer window.

A three-star recruit, Bowen threw for 4,144 yards and rushed for 2,109 with 63 total touchdowns over his career, which included two seasons as the starting quarterback for his father.

Clint Bowen was best known as a longtime Kansas assistant, where he held multiple positions. Most notably, he was the Jayhawks’ defensive coordinator over two separate stints. He also had stops at Minnesota, Western Kentucky and North Texas.

He had been on the Kansas staff with new OSU offensive coordinator Doug Meacham, who brought Bowen to Stillwater as an analyst over the winter.

Banks Bowen is a versatile quarterback whose playing style seems to fit well with Meacham’s offense. He brings depth to the OSU roster, which lost backups Garret Rangel and Maealiuaki Smith to the portal last week.

The Cowboys could still look for a fourth quarterback as the coaching staff tries to build its roster for the fall.
