Former Georgia tight end, 5-star recruit transfers to his 4th program

In the era of the transfer portal, multiple school changes have become a familiar path for many student athletes. Arik Gilbert, a former tight end for the Georgia Bulldogs, is one of the players is part of this trend and is now poised to join the Savannah State football program, as reported by Matt Zenitz. Gilbert has already participated in Savannah State’s spring football activities this year.

Arik Gilbert began his college career with the LSU Tigers, where he recorded 35 receptions for 368 yards and two touchdowns in the 2020 season. Surprisingly, he transferred to the University of Georgia, returning to his home state, and spent two seasons in Athens. In the 2022 season, Gilbert saw limited action as a reserve tight end, participating in three of the team’s twelve games.

After his time in Athens, Arik Gilbert transferred to the Nebraska Cornhuskers, but he ultimately never played for Nebraska due to off-field legal issues, which led to his departure from the team.

As a high school prospect, Arik Gilbert was a consensus five-star recruit out of Marietta High School in Marietta, Georgia. According to the 247Sports composite rankings, he was rated as the fifth-best player nationally, the top tight end in the country and the No. 1 player in Georgia. Now, he aims to revitalize his college football journey with the Savannah State Tigers.
