Iowa football lands former Purdue safety via transfer portal

Iowa football won another transfer portal recruiting battle, earning a commitment from former Purdue safety Ty Hudkins.

Hudkins announced his commitment to the Hawkeyes on Tuesday night. Hudkins appeared in all 12 games as a freshman with the Boilermakers, primarily on special teams.

Per Pro Football Focus, Hudkins garnered 145 total special teams snaps in 2024 with Purdue. The 5-foot-11, 197 pound safety also saw nine defensive snaps. Hudkins finished with one tackle in his freshman campaign.

Hudkins recently visited Iowa before announcing his pledge to the Hawkeyes.

Hudkins was a three-star signee with Purdue in the 2024 class according to 247Sports. 247Sports ranked Hudkins as the nation’s 104th safety and as the No. 22 player from Michigan.

A product of Forest Hills Central, Hudkins totaled 98 tackles along with eight pass breakups and five interceptions as a senior. Hudkins also registered 10 pass breakups, 85 tackles and two interceptions in his junior season.

The Grand Rapids, Michigan, native was named the Michigan Player of the Year for divisions three and four by the AP and was awarded first team all-state honors in both of his final two seasons.

Hudkins joins a group of Iowa safeties that features Koen Entringer, Zach Lutmer, Xavier Nwankpa and Kael Kolarik.
