Ohio State has made the cut for defensive lineman from IMG Academy

The spring transfer portal came and went without much disruption to the Ohio State football roster. With that in the rearview mirror, Ryan Day and the Buckeye coaching staff can fully focus on recruits who will be making official visits starting in about a month. One of those recruits is defensive lineman Preston Carey out of IMG Academy in Florida.

Carey is a four-star recruit according to 247Sports composite rankings and is a top 300 player nationally. Even though 247Sports has him ranked a bit lower, the young man still has an impressive list of schools that desire to land his services. Carey recently dropped his finalists of Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Rutgers, USC, and Ohio State, and has official visits scheduled with all of them.

The Scarlet Knights may jump out as the odd man out here, but Carey is a New York native. Rutgers would allow him the opportunity to play closer to family. Some experts are giving Greg Schiano and the Knights a slight lead to land his verbal pledge, which he will announce on June 30.

Carey has already taken several trips to Columbus, but his official visit will be on May 30. Lincoln Riley and the Trojans will get the final opportunity of the seven finalists to make a pitch on June 20. Ohio State has been in on Carey for a long time, extending an offer all the way back in 2023. At this point, his recruitment seems wide open.
