LSU is the favorite to land one of the nation’s top cornerbacks in New Orleans native Hayward Howard, according to On3’s Steve Wiltfong.
The reporter logged a prediction Wednesday that Howard will choose his home state school. Howard is also fielding offers from a plethora of power four schools, including six from the SEC. Head coach Brian Kelly’s staff extended an offer to Howard in early April.
The four-star prospect ranks No. 35 at his position and No. 11 in Louisiana as part of the 2026 class, according to On3’s Industry Rankings. He attends Edna Karr High School, where current Tigers Aaron Anderson and Destyn Hill as well as 2025 signee TeRon Francis also played prep football. Edna Karr is a Louisiana football factory and coming off a 15-0 state championship season.
Should Howard choose the Tigers, he would join the nation’s top-rated 2026 class. Two of his teammates at Edna Karr, Aiden Hall and Richard Anderson, already verbally committed to the program. Recruited primarily by secondary coach Corey Raymond, Howard would add to the lineage of players coming from his school and city.
