Nebraska football quarterback commit Trae Taylor issues apology

Nebraska football quarterback commitment Trae Taylor issued an apology following his commitment announcement on Thursday. The 2027 quarterback took to social media to express his remorse.

Taylor initially put on an Illinois hat during his announcement before tossing it aside, revealing a Nebraska shirt, and putting on a Nebraska hat.

The announcement caused some controversy, as some viewed it as disrespectful to the Illinois program. Several Illinois fans admonished the way the announcement was conducted, as the program was in the running to keep Taylor home. Other national analysts were displeased with it as well.

Taylor was deciding among four potential suitors. The QB will choose the Huskers over the Illinois Fighting Illini, the LSU Tigers, or the Texas A&M Aggies for his college destination.

Taylor is the Huskers’ first commitment of the 2027 class. He is the third overall quarterback in the class nationally, per Rivals rankings. His commitment represented another major victory on the recruiting trail for the program.

Taylor issued a video apology on social media on Thursday night, as the video gained traction on social media.
