UND adds prep linebacker from Nebraska to 2026 recruiting class – Grand Forks Herald

GRAND FORKS — The UND football program has added its first linebacker to the 2026 recruiting class.

Nate Appleget of Lincoln Southeast High School in Nebraska announced his commitment Thursday to play for the Fighting Hawks.

Appleget is 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds. He played in nine games last season, registering 73 tackles (25 solo). A team captain, Appleget added 10 catches for 148 yards on offense.

Appleget is a high school teammate of UND’s 2025 signee Pierre Allen Jr., who has 225 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 26.0 tackles for loss and five forced fumbles as a three-year starter at linebacker.

Appleget is yet another recruit for Schmidt to receive a verbal in the 2026 class who was hotly contested in the region. Appleget had offers from South Dakota State, Northern Illinois, Air Force and Navy.

Appleget is the ninth commitment of UND’s 2026 recruiting class and the first from Nebraska. He’s the third defensive player.

“First, I would like to thank God for the gifts and talents He has blessed me with,” Appleget posted to social media. “I want to thank my family, especially my parents, for helping me through this whole process. Thank you to my coaches, trainers, teammates and friends who helped me become a better athlete and a better person. I also want to thank every coach who put in time and effort into recruiting me over the years. With that being said, I will be continuing my academic and football career at the University of North Dakota.”

The early signing period for college football is in early December. The traditional signing period is early February.

Indications on social media signal a 10th verbal to the 2026 UND recruiting class is imminent.
