Tennessee girls flag football: Pearl-Cohn, Hillsboro video from MNPS title game

FRANKLIN ― Caroline Merville had a shiny souvenir around her eye that came courtesy of a head-on collision with a TSSAA flag football teammate during practice.
When she woke up the morning of May 3, she could barely see out of it. But instead of panicking about whether she would play in Ravenwood’s fourth straight Williamson County Flag Football championship game, she remained patient.
“I waited and waited and kept icing it in the morning like I was icing it the night before. It started to open up slowly and then the swelling started to go down before the game,” Merville said. “I’m glad it did because we did not want to lose this game.”
The eye didn’t stop her from scoring one of Ravenwood’s three touchdowns en route to a 20-7 win over Page for the Raptors’ fourth straight county title.
“This is my second year playing and I know what this team did before I got here,” the junior quarterback said. “This is a great program and we wanted to continue the championship tradition.”
Ravenwood (13-2) will get a chance to make a new memory as the District 8 representative in the TSSAA flag football invitational May 7-8 in Murfreesboro.
Flag football is in its first year as a sanctioned sport but is also regarded as an “emerging sport” under the TSSAA, which means there is no official state championship game. Teams from across Tennessee will compete in an invitational.
“We can’t wait,” said senior center Morgan Collier, who will play college flag football at Alabama State. “To know that this (county) championship isn’t the end of our our season, is new so we’re looking forward to next week and going for another championship.”
