Rutgers Football has added more depth to its offensive line. Former Illinois Offensive Tackle Zach Aamland announced his commitment to the Scarlet Knights on Saturday morning after visiting the campus on Friday.
The 6-foot-6, 305-pound Offensive Tackle is from South Brunswick, New Jersey, and played at the Hun School over in Princeton in high school. He comes to Rutgers with three years of eligibility remaining.
Aamland was a three star recruit coming out of high school and was listed as the no.22 overall prospect in New Jersey in 2023. He had a lot of positive things to say about Rutgers when the Knights offered him coming out of high school.
“Something that really stood out is how much coach Schiano cares about the players, including the players’ futures beyond football.”
“Under Coach Schiano’s original tenure they had some iconic games and really great seasons. I feel that with Coach Schiano back at the helm they are on the verge of that again.”
When he graduated high school, Aamland received interest from many other Power Five programs. Boston College, Duke, Kentucky, Louisville, Maryland, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Vanderbilt, and West Virginia all sent offers to Aamland.
Aamland did not appear in any games for the Fighting Illini over his first two years. This is not unheard of for Big Ten offensive lineman as many need time to bulk up out of high school to fill their role properly.
The Hun School has been a Rutgers recruiting hot spot over recent years as the Knights have landed six former Raiders in the past five offseasons.
