What this 2026 linebacker wants out of his Alabama football official visit

Nick Abrams knows exactly where he stands with Alabama football.

The 2026 four-star Maryland linebacker has had countless conversations with Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer, linebackers coach Chuck Morrell and general manager Courtney Morgan.

“They have made it known how much (of) a priority I am and how much (of) a need I am for them,” Abrams told the Tuscaloosa News.

Those conversations solidified Alabama into Abrams’ top schools list along with Georgia, Michigan and Oregon. And those conversations will only continue to ramp up as his official visit schedule nears ahead of a July 16 decision date.

Ahead of his official visit in Tuscaloosa in June, Abrams simply views it as an opportunity to peek into a potential future with the Crimson Tide, to see what life would be like as an Alabama linebacker.

“Just envisioning myself being here with these players, kind of see my future teammates and really understanding that this is where I would be for the next three-to-four years,” Abrams said. “Really just trying to envision myself waking up every day and going to class, going to football practice.”

On the field, Abrams’ picture of Alabama is clear.

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker out of the McDonogh School outside of Baltimore is “highly prized” by Alabama because of his versatility and intelligence as a middle linebacker, one who could be the next centerpiece for the Crimson Tide defense.

“They see me, from Day 1, being a green dot guy, being able to control the defense and being a leader in that sort of sense,” Abrams said.

For those programs in Abrams’ top four, that combination of intelligence and versatility remains at the center of each team’s argument. Michigan, Georgia and Oregon, Abrams said, see him in the same light as Alabama.
