The Oregon Ducks got some positive news on the recruiting trail this past week, and it was well-received among the fanbase after losing out on a couple of top prospects over the last week.
A lot of attention in Eugene is being paid to 5-star OT Jackson Cantwell, the No. 1 prospect in the 2026 class, who announces his commitment next week between Oregon, Georgia, Miami, and Ohio State. However, the Ducks recently got some good news when it comes to another 5-star — OT Immanuel Iheanacho, the No. 4 player in the 2026 class.
According to On3’s Steve Wiltfong, the Ducks have taken over as the leader in his recruitment this past week.
While Oregon has been recruiting Iheanacho consistently over the past year, it was believed that the Maryland Terrapins — the local school for Iheanacho, a Baltimore native — was the team to beat. However, Oregon OC Will Stein, OL coach A’lique Terry, and WR coach Ross Douglas paid a visit to Iheanacho this past week, and the tides might have turned.
If you are to read the recruiting tea leaves, it may be that Oregon doesn’t feel great about where they currently stand with Cantwell, who many project to follow 5-star QB Jared Curtis, who committed to the Bulldogs over the Ducks earlier this week. If Cantwell picks Georgia as well, then Oregon will pivot and try to land other 5-star players in the class.
Not long after Curtis committed to Georgia, predictions came in for the Ducks to land 5-star QB Ryder Lyons. Now, if they could make up for missing Cantwell by landing Iheanacho, it would be quite an impressive pivot for Lanning and his staff.
We will see how the recruitment of Iheanacho continues to play out, but this is undoubtedly a positive update for fans to feel good about.
