Ducks offers QB following miss on 5-star Jared Curtis

The Oregon Ducks are moving quickly after missing out on 5-star quarterback Jared Curtis earlier this week, who committed to the Georgia Bulldogs on Monday. In the hour after Curtis announced his commitment, the Ducks picked up multiple predictions to land fellow 5-star quarterback Ryder Lyons in the class of 2026, and now they might have eyes on another QB prospect in that class as well.

On Wednesday, Oregon extended an offer to 4-star quarterback Matt Ponatoski, the No. 291 overall player and No. 21 quarterback in the class. He is 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds and comes from Cincinnati, Ohio. Ponatoski has other offers from schools like Kentucky, Texas A&M, and Michigan.

At this point, it seems as if things are trending towards Oregon getting a commitment from Lyons, the No. 3 quarterback in the class. However, he is expected to take an LDS mission after high school, so he wouldn’t join the Ducks until 2027. There is a world in which Oregon chooses to take two quarterbacks in this class, which they’ve done in years past, and try to bridge the gap while waiting for Lyons to develop, should he choose the Ducks.

Oregon could also be after other QBs in the 2026 class, whether they are currently committed or not. The Ducks have offers out to Tennessee 5-star Faizon Brandon and Houston 5-star Keisean Henderson. While both are presently verbally committed, Lanning and his staff could work to flip one before signing day.

Regardless of who ends up joining the Ducks’ class at QB, it’s clear that Oregon is trying to make moves to pivot after losing Curtis to Georgia, and they’re doing so quickly.
