Texas vs. Texas A&M slated for Black Friday evening kick

It will mark the first time the Aggies head to Austin since 2010.

The Texas Longhorns and Texas A&M Aggies will head to Austin for their storied football rivalry on Black Friday this fall, with kickoff for the Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown set for 6:30 p.m. Central time on Friday, Nov. 28, at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, the schools announced Thursday.

The 2025 meeting marks a return to a Thanksgiving weekend tradition, as it will be the first time since 2007 that the game is played on the Friday after Thanksgiving. The rivalry was played on Thanksgiving Day from 2008 to 2011, and prior to that, it was regularly scheduled for the Friday of the holiday weekend from 1996 to 2007. In total, Texas and Texas A&M have met 15 times on the day after Thanksgiving and 84 of their 119 matchups have been held on Thanksgiving or the following day.

This year’s game will be the 120th meeting in a series that dates back to 1894. Texas leads the all-time series 77-37-5, including a 46-12-1 advantage in Austin. The Longhorns have won four of the last five contests, with the only loss in that span coming in Austin in 2010. The 2025 matchup will be the first time the teams have played in Austin since 2010, following games in College Station in 2011 and 2024.

The Longhorns are entering their fifth season under coach Steve Sarkisian. Over the past two seasons, Texas has posted a 25-5 record, reached consecutive College Football Playoff semifinals, made an SEC Championship Game appearance and captured a Big 12 title. Texas opens the 2025 season on Aug. 30 at Ohio State, with its home opener against San Jose State on Sept. 6. Other home games include UTEP (Sept. 13), Sam Houston (Sept. 20), Vanderbilt (Nov. 1), Arkansas (Nov. 22) and the Lone Star Showdown against Texas A&M (Nov. 28).
