Does Texas A&M QB Marcel Reed face more, or less pressure in 2025?

Texas A&M’s 2025 football will start and end with starting quarterback Marcel Reed’s performance, as he enters the 2025 season as the full-time starter after rotating with Conner Weigman during the 2024 season. Despite Reed’s four-star recruiting prowess and dual-threat running ability, Aggie fans are split on his ability to lead the offense due to his lack of consistency in the passing game.

Still, this offseason has and will continue to be focused on getting Reed to the level he needs to reach in the pocket, while the additions of wide receivers KC Concepcion, Mario Craver, and Jonah Wilson from the transfer portal should help make things easier as a passer. While the Aggies’ run game should be a strength once again with the return of senior Le’Veon Moss.

However, the question of overall “pressure” Marcel Reed will face as the team’s offensive leader will be based on how the offensive line performs, and if A&M’s defense can keep scores low, preventing him from having to pass his way to victory. This week, SEC Unfiltered voice Cole Thompson made an interesting comparison regarding the “pressure” debate between Reed and new Auburn starting QB Jackson Arnold, who previously played for Oklahoma.

“Marcel Reed maybe costs you a game, or your defense costs you a game. I don’t feel that way about Auburn right now. Auburn to me has a defense that could keep them in every single game. I think they have the best wide receiver corps in college football.”

Thompson continued to make the case that Auburn is the more complete team, noting that Jackson Arnold needs to take advantage of the strengths around him, especially when the defense is expected to keep opposing offenses at bay. However, Thompson isn’t as high on the Aggies with Reed at the helm in pressure-based situations.
