When the Virginia Tech Hokies’ matchup with the South Carolina Gamecocks was announced a couple of years ago, there was excitement. South Carolina represented the SEC and was a regional foe. However, the primary reason VT fans were excited: South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer.
We don’t need to give you a biography of Beamer. Shane, the son of legendary Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer, was raised in Blacksburg, attended Blacksburg High School, and played and later coached for the Hokies. He is entering his fifth season as SC’s head coach in 2025 and holds a 29-22 career record.
The younger Beamer will always have fans in Blacksburg. There are also those who are not fans because Beamer seemingly loves sticking it to the Hokies on the recruiting trail. In reality, Virginia Tech has won some recruiting battles against Beamer, too.
On Tuesday, confirmation that the 2025 season opener is only a few months away came when the kickoff time was set for the Hokies-Gamecocks.

The Gamecocks will be a tough matchup for the Hokies. Quarterback LaNorris Sellers is one of the country’s QBs and will create problems with his arm and legs. The good news is the Hokies get the Gamecocks in Week 1.
