Former USC commit Xavier Griffin schedules visit to Alabama football

One of the nation’s premier 2026 prospects is now available once again, as highly-touted linebacker Xavier Griffin announced Wednesday afternoon that he was decommitting from the USC Trojans, re-opening his recruitment.

In addition to his decommitment, Griffin has also announced four upcoming official visits in the coming weeks, one of which will be with the Alabama Crimson Tide. Griffin will visit Alabama on June 6, and alongside the Crimson Tide, the linebacker will also visit Ohio State, Texas, and Florida State between now and the end of June.

Having previously been committed to USC since July of 2024, Griffin currently ranks as the nation’s No. 22 overall player in the 2026 class according to the 247Sports Composite recruiting rankings. A five-star prospect, Griffin is also ranked as the nation’s No. 2 overall linebacker, as well as the No. 2 player in the state of Georgia where he attends Gainesville High School.

At the moment, Alabama’s 2026 recruiting class boasts five total commitments, three of which come from the state of Georgia. Of those three, one is also a teammate of Griffin at Gainesville High School in four-star edge rusher Jamarion Matthews.
