With 100 days remaining until college football kicks off, ESPN released a full rundown of the biggest storylines heading into the 2025 season—and Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik sits right at the center of the Heisman conversation.
Now a senior, Klubnik is projected by several outlets as the No. 1 overall pick in next year’s NFL Draft and was labeled the Heisman favorite by ESPN’s Chris Low. “Klubnik has grown tremendously since his first season as a starter in 2023,” Low said. “The 6-2, 210-pound senior ranks in the top five in Clemson history in nearly every passing category.”
In 2024, Klubnik posted 3,600+ passing yards and over 400 rushing yards—one of only two FBS quarterbacks to hit both marks. He totaled 43 touchdowns (36 passing, seven rushing) while throwing just six interceptions in 486 attempts. Low added that what’s especially promising this fall is that “he has all of his top wide receivers returning for the 2025 season.”
Clemson has come close to producing a Heisman winner before, with Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence each finishing second in the voting over the last decade. Klubnik may have the best chance yet to finally bring the trophy to Death Valley.
Another name to watch in Clemson’s backfield is freshman running back Gideon Davidson, who made ESPN’s Top 10 freshmen to watch in 2025. “Davidson, ESPN’s No. 3 running back in 2025, rushed for more than 5,000 yards and 80 touchdowns over his final two high school seasons,” wrote Eli Lederman. Head coach Dabo Swinney said last month that Davidson is “physically” ready to contribute with the first team but still needs to develop into a complete back. If he improves as a blocker and learns the offense, he could quickly become the Tigers’ top option in the ground game.
