Notre Dame gets closer to having the top 2026 recruiting class

The two teams that sit atop the 2026 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings know each other very well, Notre Dame and USC.

The bitter rivals not only have been battling it out on the field, but they’ve also done it on the recruiting trail. The Irish have gained commitments from multiple prospects considering both schools, and again added to their class with the commitment running back Jonaz Walton.

It wasn’t as good of a Wednesday for the Trojans, as they lost 5-star star linebacker Xavier Griffin, who decided that Southern California wasn’t the place for him. He quickly set up multiple official visits, and none of them are to return to trip USC, so he’s dropped them entirely from his list.

With that movement for both top ranked recruiting teams, it didn’t change much, as the top classes stayed the same, with Notre Dame making up some ground on the top class. The Trojans hold an overall score of 289.30 and the Irish are at 251.16.

It should be noted that USC has 11 more commitments than the Irish, but Notre Dame holds a lead in average recruit ranking with 92.21 compared to 91.55. Both teams should finish close to the top of a rankings by the end of the cycle, but the Irish have more potential to be higher when it is all said and done.
