Jayden Maiava of USC football ranked in national top 40 by 247Sports

Jayden Maiava will need to be better than just a top-40 quarterback for USC to realize its potential

This offseason is a crucial one for USC quarterback Jayden Maiava. After starting the final four games of last season, he will enter fall camp as the heavy favorite to be USC’s starting quarterback. However, he will have to fend off competition from transfer Sam Huard and five-star freshman Husan Longstreet.

Assuming that he can win the Trojans’ starting job, however, where does Maiava rank nationally among quarterbacks? Recently, 247Sports released their ranking of the top 50 signal callers in the country entering the 2025 season. Maiava came in at No. 38 on the list.

Here is what 247 national college football analyst Brad Crawford had to say about Maiava.

“The signal-caller who chased Miller Moss to Louisville, Maiava assumes top billing as the facilitator of sorts for Lincoln Riley. As we’ve seen with Riley’s quarterbacks, most deserve the benefit of the doubt this time of the year given the friendly offensive scheme.”

Maiava had some very good moments for USC in his four starts last season, but struggled with turnovers at times. If he can clean up his play and protect the football, Maiava could emerge as one of the top quarterbacks in the Big Ten in 2025.
