Under former head coach Jimbo Fisher, Texas A&M’s lack of success in developing elite wide receivers was a persistent issue, especially after former five-star Evan Stewart transferred to Oregon, where he has since thrived. With Mike Elko now at the helm, recruiting elite pass catchers has not dropped off, led by 2025 five-star signeed Jerome Myles.
However, during the 2024 season, Texas A&M’s lack of juice in the passing game wasn’t just due to starting quarterback Marcel Reed’s struggles in the pocket, as the WR corps failed to gain consistent separation, which became a significant issue after star running back Le’Veon Moss went down with a season-ending injury.
After landing KC Concepcion, Mario Craver, and Jonah Wilson from the transfer portal, the Aggies are poised to improve in 2024, and these additions should lead to sustained success on the recruiting trail. After landing four-star wide receivers Aaron Gregory, Madden Williams and Mike Brown in the 2026 cycle, Texas A&M is now a finalist to land four-star WR Jordan Clay out of San Antonio (TX).
Making his top 10 program list, Colorado, UCLA, Texas, Baylor, Miami, Stanford, Oklahoma, Notre Dame and Arizona State join the Aggies’ has his initial finalists. Texas A&M offered Clay in February of 2024, but have not locked down an official visit this summer, as Colorado, Baylor, and Oklahoma will officially host Clay next month.
On the field, Clay is versatile playmaker who hauled in 67 receptions, 1,423 yards and 19 touchdowns during his 2022-2023 seasons.
According to 247Sports, Clay is currently positioned as the 86th-ranked prospect in the 2026 class, the 8th-ranked wide receiver, and the 15th-ranked prospect in Texas.
